Block Theatre

Target Audience: all ages
Duration: 30 minutes

Synopsis
Block Theatre is visual and sculptural puppetry play where abstract, geometrical wooden blocks come alive and lead the audience into different worlds supported by puppeteer, music and sound world.

Artist Profile
KO-KOO-MO is a visual art concept based on creativity, free from language and cultural barriers. Block theatre is a form of visual theatre and a method that centers on the Human-Shaped Reconstruction Kit, designed by fine artist Kai Ruohonen, carved out of different types of wood. The core of KO-KOO-MO and Block Theatre is the emptiness that rises from the reduced wooden blocks, hiding an unlimited potential of characters and phenomena. In the imagination of the builder and the viewer, ever-changing meanings are carved out of the wooden blocks. Block theatre artist Roosa Halme is an explorer in the world of puppetry, visual theatre and music. Halme graduated from the puppet theatre department of Turku Arts Academy in 2009 and from the composing class of the music department of Pirkanmaa University of Applied Sciences in 2008. She studied at Turku Arts Academy Master School the Contemporary Contexts of Art and graduated in 2022. She has worked as a performer, director, musician, composer, artist in schools, regional artist at Arts Promotion Center Finland, developer of the Block Theatre concept and as a co-founder and artistic director of two international festivals, TIP-Fest and PIP-Fest. Halme has worked for different ensembles and theatres and her work has been presented on several international venues around the world. She is interested in the organicity and pervasiveness of making, experiencing, and being of the art.
